Broadcast campaigns

Composing a campaign, choosing an audience, previewing the exact message, and the limits that protect your number.

A broadcast sends one message to a chosen group of your customers — a new price list, a delivery day change, a festival offer.

Available on Pro and Business.

Composing one

1

Choose a template

Broadcasts always go as a WhatsApp-approved template. Your approved templates appear in the picker.

2

Fill in the values

Whatever the template leaves blank. These are validated as you type against WhatsApp's actual rules — no newlines, no tabs, no long runs of spaces, and a total length limit.

3

Choose an audience

One of three groups, described below.

4

Read the preview and the count

The preview is rendered by the same code that will render every recipient's message. It is the message, not an approximation of it.

5

Confirm

The audience is fixed at this moment and sending begins.

Why always a template

Free-form messages are only allowed within 24 hours of a customer's last message. On a real shop's customer list, most people are outside that window at any given time — when this was measured on the pilot, one customer in four was inside it.

Choosing per recipient would mean a four-person campaign going out in two different renderings, and a preview that was only true for a quarter of the audience. So it is one channel for everyone: the template.

Who is excluded, and why you are told

Some customers are filtered out before sending:

  • Anyone who has opted out.
  • Anyone currently mid-conversation with a person.

The count says so explicitly — "sending to 34 of 41, 5 opted out" — rather than quietly sending to fewer people than you think. The number invites the one question worth asking.

The audience is frozen at confirm

Every recipient's finished message text is worked out at the moment you confirm, and stored.

Editing the template at WhatsApp afterwards, renaming a product, or a customer changing their profile name cannot rewrite a message that was already approved for sending. What you previewed is what goes out.

Limits

  • 200 recipients per campaign. Refused at confirm, never truncated — a silently shortened audience is a campaign you believe reached everyone.
  • Sending is paced, and a campaign interrupted part-way resumes automatically.
  • A resumed campaign re-checks your quiet hours, so an interrupted send does not wake customers at 3am when it picks back up.

Failures

Individual failures live on the campaign, not in your alerts inbox. A campaign raises at most one alert, whatever happened inside it — 200 alerts from one campaign would bury everything else.

Temporary failures are retried a bounded number of times with a delay between attempts. Permanent ones are recorded against that recipient.

What broadcasts cannot be used for

Your shop's transactional templates — order updates, payment reminders, the daily summary — are blocked from the campaign picker.

This is enforced in three separate places, because the picker is not the only way to reach a template.

Not included

Scheduling, image-header templates, and per-campaign delivery or revenue analytics are not built. A campaign tells you how many were sent and how many failed.
